Vibe Contents Page Analysis.
Genre: The genre of this magazine is RnB. We can see this by the Artist that has been used, Kanye West. We also have an indication of what genre the magazine is by the stories on the right hand side of the page, for example the word 'fashion' immediately indicate that the magazine is of RnB genre, as this genre of music is more fashion-orientated.
Target Audience: The target audience of this magazine would be 15-19 years of age, as that is stereotypically the age of people who generally listen to RnB. The contents page of the magazine appeals to people of this age group as it shows a current artist, which would make people want to buy the magazine. The target audience would be mainly girls, and you can see this as there is a story on the page which says 'Fashion' and females are generally more interested in fashion.
Layout: There is only one picture on the page, and this grabs the attention immediately. The stories are all on the right hand side of the page, and as there aren't many stories, our attention is more focused on the artist. I would say this was done deliberately as the main feature of the magazine would be the interview with this artist, and so by making the reader focus on the artist, you can immediately see what type of magazine it is. The font on the page is bold, and in capital letters to make an impact. It is split into three lines in order to focus more on the artist.
Representation: The artist isn't smiling which conveys the idea he has more of an attitude. The image is in full black and white, other than the heart which is on his chest, which is bright red. There is a female hand which is grabbing the heart from Kanye's chest, which draws the attention. It could also give an insight into what the artist is going to talk about in he interview: his love life. The artist is wearing lost of clothes, however on a usual RnB magazine, the women are usually wearing quite revealing clothes. This shows the differences of how men and women are represented in these magazines.
Media Language: The photograph of the artist is a medium shot, as it shows his waist upwards. It is shot from a slightly low angle, to make the artist look more impressive and powerful.
